2010 Involvement of Sunshine Coast Search and Rescue

  • 22 January 2010: We were put on standby for a possible airplane crash in West Sechelt but fortunately it turned out to be a false alarm.
  • 03 February 2010: Prepared to search missing teenager.  Luckily the subject turned up at home safe and sound at daylight, two days after having gone missing, and within an hour after the callout had been sent out.
  • 16 May 2010: We assisted the RCMP in determining the location of a missing person near Langdale Falls.  Some family members were given direction where to look for the person and by the time our member arrived on site with the RCMP, the re-united family were walking out to the parking area.
  • 22 May 2010: Two members participated with the Mobile Command Unit (MCU) in the Pender Harbour May Day Parade.

  • 01 July 2010: Nine members participated with MCU in the Sechelt Canada Day Parade.

  • 01 July 2010: Preparations were underway for a search for two missing boys in the Egmont area when a stand down was given as the two boys returned safely.
  • 14 and 15 July 2010: Assist RCMP in searching for two people allegedly seen in Chapman Creek.

·         24 July 2010: Two members participated with the MCU in the Gibsons Sea Cavalcade Parade.

·         08 August 2010: A call out was responded to in the Homesite Creek area of Halfmoon Bay to assist the BC Ambulance Service in carrying out a patient.  We were stood down before we had an opportunity to assist.

·         15 August 2010: Assistance was given to the RCMP in recovering a body on the beach and down a steep embankment in the Halfmoon Bay area.

·         21 to 30 August 2010: Five of our members provided mutual aid to Squamish Search and Rescue in their bid to locate a missing hiker in Pinecone-Burke Provincial Park.

22 August 2010 – Mustering in Squamish.

 

·         18 September 2010: A successful tracking course was sponsored by our team in West Sechelt.

18 September 2010 – Learning tracking skills.

 

·         19 October 2010: We were put on standby to look for a missing teenager in Sechelt.  The subject was subsequently located by the RCMP and we were stood down.

·         14 November 2010: A hover entry and exit practice was done using one of Airspan Helicopters Aerostar machines.
