13th ANNUAL SLEEPY HOLLOW
ROD RUN AND SHOW AND SHINE
AUGUST 8, 9, and 10, 2008.

PRESENTED BY THE COASTERS CAR CLUB.

(Part One of the Festival of the Rolling Arts)

The schedule below is tentative, subject to change once the Committee finalizes the plans for the 2008 Sleepy Hollow.

The dates are set but the schedule may change.

We will again meet at Hackett Park on Friday night and start the Rod Run to Halfmoon Bay from there.

We will then return to Sechelt and go up to the Sechelt Golf Course for the corn roast.

Again in 2008, there will be a ZERO tolerance for burnouts done on the Rod Run on Friday night.  Anyone caught doing burnouts will have all weekend privileges revoked immediately and there will be NO refund.  There is a tremendous liability brought on by a few simple minded folks who insist on doing the burnouts.  The liability is theirs, not ours, and someone is going to get hurt soon, maybe even killed, and nobody wants that.  If you want to do burnouts, go to the Drag Races on Sunday and do all the burnouts you want.  As well as the liability issue, the burnouts cause large gaps in the flow of the traffic – it soon becomes hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait, . . .  A lot of the cars behind those doing the burnouts soon overheat and then have to drop out of the Run.  That is not what we want.  The RCMP has advised that if burnouts become a problem again, they will cancel the Rod Run on us.  We don’t want that!  Remember, please refrain from doing burnouts or you will have your weekend privileges revoked and you may cause us to lose one of the best parts of the weekend!

2008 Tentative Schedule:

  • Friday evening (August 8): Registration at Hackett Park starting at 4:00 pm followed by an evening cruise at about 7:00 pm to Halfmoon Bay and then back to the Sechelt Golf Course for a corn roast and a social gathering for the paid participants only starting at about 8:15 to 8:30 pm.  Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be available at the Golf Course for $4.00 and $6.00 respectively.  We hope to again be able to offer rides on the Rod Run to youths between the ages of 13 and 19.  Parental permission must be obtained prior to riding in the vehicles and a Rod Run Parental Consent Form is available here on-line.  Please click on the link in the last sentence.
  • Saturday (August 9): Registration on Cowrie Street starts at 9:00 am.  There will be a ladies poker walk, Show and Shine, door prizes, dash plaques, trophies, music, hot-dogs, pop, etc.  This will then be followed by a barbecue and family dance for the paid participants only at the Sechelt Golf Course.  The music this year is again provided by our own Brian Swanson and his Band, Local Traffic.  All of the cars will be lined up on Cowrie Street, from Wharf Road to Ocean Avenue and on part of Inlet Avenue.  We will not have any cars on Teredo Lane as we have done in the past few years.  PLEASE NOTE:  You must be registered and have the “yellow dot” on your headlight before you can park on the Street.
  • Sunday (August 10): Good-byes and off to the drag races at the Sechelt Airport put on by the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association.

For those folks attending from out of town, please consider camping, booking motel rooms in Gibsons, or billeting with some of our members.  Dry camping may be available at Steve and Betty Holland’s property on Henry Road near Gibsons.  If you are interested in being billeted, please contact Debbie at the email address above.   Don’t leave your motel or ferry reservations too late or you may miss out.  You might also want to consider arriving early by a few days and staying later by a few days and enjoy the various things the Sunshine Coast has to offer.  For information on the Sunshine Coast motels, campgrounds, B&B’s, etc., please visit the Sunshine Coast Bed and Breakfast and Cottage Owners Association website , Big Pacific, or Suncoast Central.  They are all full of great information.

Spectators are welcome to come and view the cars on Cowrie Street in Sechelt from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday August 9 only, but please note that the dinner and dance are for the "paid event" participants only.  This will be a full Motorsport weekend with the Sleepy Hollow on Friday and Saturday and the drag races on Sunday.  It should be a lot of fun!  We hope to see you there!  All "paid" participants will be issued wrist bands and they must be worn to all events.  You will not be allowed entry if you are not wearing your wrist band!
